Boom Karts
Boom Karts is a rally game similar to Mario Kart, where the objective is to use pickups, knock out opponents and get to the finish line first! It was co-developed with Fingersoft. I wasn't the main artist on it, but I helped out with concepts and tech art from time to time.
Roles: Technical Artist, Concept Artist
Tools: Adobe Photoshop, Unity
Responsibilities:
- Blender node setup for a shop item bundle that would be easy to iterate on the fly
- 2D renders for shop items from Blender
- New coin 2D design from a 3D render
- Costume designs for new skins.
Remade coin bundles in Blender. The old coin bundles featured, for example, a cargo ship for the largest bundle and were unclear in terms of how much currency you were receiving.
I made a Blender geometry node solution for rendering the currency bundles. Instead of drawing all of them, you could make a few nodes and animate the scattering coins through physics. That would mean if the currency design were to ever change again, it would be as easy as plugging a new texture into the scene to render updated versions of the bundles. VoilĂ !
Comic idea for the introduction of a new skin in the game: Rocket Man.
Fun mask ideas for season skins, the clown masks at the bottom were inspired by Payday 2 and were eventually added to the game as part of a season pass.
